The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is an internationally accepted way of testing the English language proficiency of high school and college students and others seeking to study or work overseas. The IELTS exam evaluates a person’s ability to read, write, listen to, and speak English in a professional manner. The exam focuses on all the major language skills necessary for successful communication in an English-speaking environment. It has become an essential tool for those hoping to live and work abroad, especially in the UK, US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. The IELTS exam is split into four different areas: writing, speaking, listening, and reading. Writing consists of two tasks: an essay, for which examinees must present their ideas clearly and concisely, and a task such as describing a table or a diagram. Speakers have a conversation about everyday life topics, such as anything from health and sport to family and school life. Listening is a multiple-choice section with audio recordings.
